After dealing with insurance companies and adjusters, I managed (with most of the heavy lifting done by my lovely wife) to harvest 60 lbs. of fennel and 12 lbs. of carrots. We sold a portion of this first crop to a local chef. If you’re in Orange county and need fennel (bulbs or greens), please let me know. And pass it on! I have 30 lbs. of bulbs left, and tons of greens!

Caught fowl pox on one of our chickens in it’s early stages. I had already separated her from the rest of the flock, but this morning… well, I had to put her down. Broke my heart, but that’s life and death on the farm. Helluva way to start the week.

Farm living agrees with me. I had to go to the next notch on my belt, and I haven’t changed my diet a bit! Plus, I eat a lot of very rich foods, and drink good beer. Makes me like a frontiersman!
